Eastern Mediterranean University’s Tourism Faculty, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program team successfully made it to the third place at the culinary competitions organised by the European Association of Hotel and Tourism Schools (AEHT)
Students of EMU Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program, who came third in last year’s culinary competitions of the AEHT, were awarded a bronze medal in this year’s event which took place in Oostend, Belgium between 13 and 18 November 2017. Participated by Mustafa Kocabaşoğlu in the culinary category and Güzden Ballı in the pastry category, the competition hosted over 50 contestants from 25 countries. Formed by students from different countries, the team of Güzden Ballı was awarded a bronze medal as they came third in the pastry category of the said competition.
The culinary competitions organised by the AEHT took place within the scope of the 30th Conference which commenced on 13 November 2017. During the first day, students, jury members and trainers attended informative meetings regarding the concept of the competitions which were held between 14 and 17 November 2017. The winners’ names were announced on 19 November 2017 at a gala event.
In a statement, EMU Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç expressed their happiness in the remarkable achievements of the participating students. Congratulating the students, Prof. Dr. Kılıç also extended his appreciation towards specialist chefs and academic staff members contributing to the success of the students and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam for his invaluable support.
