Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Urban Research and Development Center (URDC) Chair and Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture academic staff member Prof. Dr. Şebnem Hoşkara stated that EMU URDC is now a partner of the World Urban Campaign of UN-HABITAT. Prof. Dr. Hoşkara stated the following regarding the 8 November World Urbanism Day:
“The mission of the World Urban Campaign (WUC) is to contribute to developing solutions and taking action in cities and communities in implementing the New Urban Agenda to accelerate the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030. This is a new deal under the Decade of Action to deliver the urban dimension of the SDGs by 2030. With just less than ten years to go to meet the targets of the SDGs, we need to have ambitious goals commensurate with the global effort needed to deliver the 2030 promise under the Decade of Action.
This new deal is about ambition, collaboration, and results. By joining, EMU URDC will support and promote the WUC vision, which is: "Together shaping the future of cities, leaving no one behind", its mission, strategic actions, the role of its coalition, and its actions as described on the official WUC website. Through this partnership, EMU URDC, which has been conducting awareness studies on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for over two years and collaborating to produce 'local action for global impact', will contribute to the advocacy and knowledge-sharing activities of the World Urban Campaign and will make efforts at national and international level to end extreme poverty, combat inequality and injustice, and develop solutions to the climate crisis in cities and public spaces.”
