Operating under the Eastern Mediterranean University, Social and Cultural Activities Directorate, the only student institution in North Cyprus recognized internationally, AEGEE Famagusta (European Students Forum), completed its annual Summer University, bringing together students from a number of European countries.
The 18th Summer University included 23 students from 8 different European countries (Spain, Ukraine, Italy, Hungary, Holland, Slovakia, Poland and Germany). The organisation which took place between the 10th and 21st of July aimed to crush stereotyping and prejudice, integrate different cultures and promote Cyprus. As part of the organization, students visited different locations like Famagusta, Kyrenia, Nicosia, Iskele and Karpaz. The visitors also received Turkish language courses and courses on the history of Cyprus and Cypriot cuisine. AEGEE Cyprus is aiming for a top ten finish in a poll set to take place in September, deciding the Best Summer School in Europe. The polling is set to include the votes of 2500 different people in approximately 70 different European cities.
