Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of Civil Defense Organisation visited Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) acting Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel.
During the visit made by the Coordinator of the TRNC Ministry of Civil Defence Organisation Mehmet Yılmabaşar and the Famagusta Area Director Kamil Ağcabay, the parties discussed the Esentepe Education and Reception Centre connected to the Ministry of Civil Defense Organisation.
Within the context of the “Cooperation and Solidarity Protocol” signed with EMU in 2010, the Ministry of Civil Defense Organisation made a request on the 31st December 2019, for the Esentepe Education and Reception Centre building to be examined by a team of specialist academics from our university, in order to assess the buildings structural situation and earthquake resistance. A specialist team consisting of EMU Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering academic staff Prof. Dr. Khaled Marar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cemal Geneş and Research Assistant Mohammed Ghorbanzadeh, performed on-site inspections and examinations, and as a result, prepared a detailed report on 21st February, 2020, which they delivered to the Ministry of Civil Defense Organisation. During the visit in relation to the prepared report, views were exchanged on the subject and new collaborations were emphasized to strengthen the said buildings.
