The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Özay Oral Library, celebrated the 52nd Library Week through a series of activities. Library Week is an event organised by the Turkish Republic, Turkish Librarians Association. This year, Library Week took place between the 28th of March and the 3rd of April 2016. On the 30th of March 2016, a book reading activity took place at the front yard of EMU Özay Oral Library at 12:00.
The said event began with a flute concert performed by the academicians of the EMU Faculty of Education, Fine Arts Department Music Teaching Programme. After the musical performance, a book reading activity with the slogan “We are reading books within the 81 provinces and North Cyprus” took place for a duration of 30 minutes. Students, academicians and administrative personnel were present at the book reading organisation. 3rd grade students from the Eastern Mediterranean Doga College also attended the event.
Osman Soykan, Director of EMU Özay Oral Library, stated that their aim is to increase the public attention towards libraries and books by increasing awareness about reading habits. The event was also attended by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan, Vice Rector for International Affairs and Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca, Rector’s Coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Arif Akkeles, Student Affairs Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dervis Subasi and Director of Public Relations & Press Office Murat Aktugrali.
Prof. Dr. Osam, thanked the academic staff present from the Music Teaching Programme and the Eastern Mediterranean Doga College for their attendance whilst presenting them with certificates of gratitude and flowers.
