Within the framework of 8 March International Women’s Day, Eastern Mediterranean University Center for Women’s Research (EMU – CWS), in collaboration with Mormenekşe Women’s Association and Dipkarpaz ÇATOM Cooperation and Development Cooperative, organised an event entitled “The Role of Village Associations in Social Change: Mormenekşe and Çatom Case”.
Highlighting the importance of Social Change in reaching gender equality, the event hosted a talk focusing on the role non-governmental organisations in the change of patriarchal structure within the society. Having taken place under the moderatorship of EMU-CWS Vice Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Seda Orbay Yücel, the event was supported by Famagusta Kale Lions, Famagusta Mesarya Lions and 100th Anniversary Mehmetçik Karpaz Lions. During the event Mormenekşe Village Women’s Association Chair Erşen Ummanel and Dipkarpaz ÇATOM Cooperation and Development Cooperative Chair Arzu Pürtül extended their gratitude and appreciation to all contributors and stressed the importance of the associations in the societal development. Prior to the talk, an exhibition opening featuring Mormenekşe Women’s Association’s activities also took place.
