Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics Department Undergraduate Program has been found worthy to receive 5-year accreditation between 8 March, 2022 and 30 September, 2027, as a result of the evaluation made by the Health Sciences Education Programs Accreditation Board (SABAK). On 23 May, 2022, at 13:30, the accreditation certificate was presented to EMU at a ceremony held in the EMU Senate Room.
SABAK operates as an independent association that contributes to improving the quality of health sciences education in Turkey by carrying out accreditation, evaluation and information work for health sciences education programs in different disciplines. SABAK bases its evaluations on 9 evaluation criteria, namely “Education Program”, “Program Outcomes”, “Students”, “Instructors”, “Infrastructure”, “Administrative Structure”, “Institutional Support and Financial Resources”, “Continuous Renewal and Development” and “Discipline-Specific Criteria” .
Speaking before the ceremony, EMU Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç stated that they are very proud and added that the Faculty has continued to improve itself every day since its foundation. Expressing her gratitude to those who contributed to the accreditation, Prof. Dr. Malkoç wished the accreditation to be beneficial for the institution.
In her speech, SABAK Vice President Prof. Dr. Maviş Emel Ulak Kayıkçı stated that the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Undergraduate Program has been accredited for a period of 5 years and congratulated everyone who contributed. After providing information about SABAK, Prof. Dr. Kayıkçı presented the accreditation certificate to Prof. Dr. Prof. Dr. Hocanın.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın extended his congratulations to those who contributed to the SABAK accreditation process and underlined that the quality process is a difficult and never-ending cycle. Stating that quality is set as a target in all faculties and departments of EMU, Prof. Dr. Hocanın emphasized that all essential work has been carried out in this context and that almost all faculties, especially those in the field of health, have been accredited, and work is underway for those who has not. Stating that the accreditation process will never end and always continue, Prof. Dr. Hocanın underlined that the walk towards quality will continue in an increasing format.
After the opening speeches, the said accreditation certificate was presented to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın by SABAK Vice President Prof. Dr. Kayıkçı. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın presented a gift with the EMU logo to Prof. Dr. Kayıkçı and Prof. Dr. Malkoç. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and gifts unique to EMU to the academic and administrative staff who supported the accreditation efforts.
