The UK-based Times Higher Education (THE), one of the most reputable publishers of the worldwide university rankings, announced “The World’s Best Young Universities Rankings 2022”, featuring the list of the world’s best universities under the age of 50. In the said rankings, Eastern Mediterranean University has achieved remarkable success after having been ranked 153rd. amongst the universities included in the list. Having been placed within the 251-300 band in the former year’s rankings, EMU has achieved an outstanding success with a high momentum this year.
Ranked First in Northern Cyprus, Within the Top Three Across the Island, and Fourth Among Turkish Universities
The ranking allows for comparison amongst young institutions in terms of publications, citations, quality of education and internationalization. As stated in the aforementioned ranking, EMU ranks first in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and within the top three across the island. EMU also ranks 4th among the Turkish universities included in the ranking, after Koç University, Çankaya University and Sabancı University. In the list which announced Paris Sciences et Lettres – PSL Research University Paris as the world leader, three universities from South Cyprus have been included. The performance scales from the overall THE World List were used in the THE Best Young Universities Ranking 2022, which evaluates young universities under the age of 50 worldwide according to their educational quality, scientific research, bibliographic citations, international visibility and industrial revenues.

Making a statement on the subject, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın expressed his happiness and pride in the success achieved by EMU in the said ranking and emphasized that EMU has achieved an important success with serious progress. Drawing attention to the fact that EMU, which is a state university, is ranked among the best universities in the world by international independent ranking institutions and this is an indication of the university’s quality of education and research, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın thanked all EMU staff who contributed to this success.
