Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University Business and Economics Faculty, Business Department, “International Local Governments Symposium” will commence with an opening ceremony taking place at Salamis Bay Conti Resort Hotel at 9:30 a.m. on 25 November 2014. The symposium will put special focus on Turkey’s, TRNC’s and other Turkic countries’ local government systems under the heading of “Problems of Local Governments”.
During the opening ceremony of the event, Assist. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu, EMU Business Department Chair Assoc. Prof Dr. Mustafa Tümer, EMU Board of Trustees’ chair and Famagusta Mayor İsmail Arter, TRNC Municipalities Union chair Ahmet Benli, Famagusta District Governor Şifa Çolakoğlu and TRNC Minister of Internal Affairs Teberrüken Uluçay will be delivering speeches. Additionally, EMU Education Faculty Fine Arts Music Teacher Education Program will be contributing to the event with a mini concert.
The symposium which will host approximately 150 participants will cover central and local governments’ job distribution as well as the election system in local governments. Sub-headings of the event are as follows: “Resource Distribution in Local Governments, Productivity and Effectiveness of Services in Local Governments, Economy in Local Governments, Local Autonomy, Unity and Participation in Local Governments, Sample Applications in Local Governments, Planning in Local Governments, Income Sources of Local Governments, Transparency and Accountability in Local Governments, Election System in Local Governments, Municipality Staff Management, Job Distribution between the Central Government and Local Governments, International and Regional Relationships of Local Governments”.
The symposium which wil continue on 26 November 2014 is expected to attract an intensive group of participants both from TRNC and other Turkic countries.
