Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Tourism Faculty attended the Third Conference on Managing Tourism Across Continents (MTCON’22) organized in Antalya by the Association of Turkish Tourism Academics.
With an active participation of 30 papers, EMU Tourism Faculty academic staff members and research assistants attended the panels and training organized within the scope of the congress. EMU Tourism Faculty academic staff member Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe and Oxford Brookes University academic staff member Prof. Dr. Levent Altınay acted as the co-chairs of the congress. On the other hand, the chair of the Association of Turkish Tourism Academics and Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University academic staff member Prof. Dr. Muharrem Tuna attended the event as the chair of the Honorary Board.
As it was the first face-to-face event after the pandemic, a significant number of academics at national and international level attended the congress, which was realized as part of a series of events held within the scope of the Turkey Tourism Summit. While 230 academics from Turkey and 293 from abroad participated in the event with their research studies, 65 universities from Turkey and 113 universities from abroad contributed the event. Academics from 43 different countries participated in the congress where the editors of the world's most influential journals in the field of tourism held panels and workshops.
EMU Tourism Faculty achieved an important success during the congress which was actively participated by the EMU Tourism Faculty academic staff members and research assistants. EMU Tourism Faculty research assistant Laiba Ali received the “Best Paper and Honorable Mention Award” with the paper titled “Antecedents and Outcomes of Guests’ Emotions and Satisfaction in Malaysian Peer to Peer Accommodation Sector”.

Making a statement on the topic, EMU Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç emphasized that the faculty does not only train qualified graduates for the sector but also that it is one of the most respected institutions in the world, which makes a significant contribution to the academic literature with its graduate and doctoral programs with nearly 200 students, in collaboration with advisors, and international publications. Stating that the most striking and recent example of it is EMU being listed as the 38th university in the world’s most prestigious universities list of the Shangai Ranking in 2021, Prof. Dr. Kılıç underlined the fact that the Tourism Faculty is at the top of the list in terms of publication quality in both Turkey and Cyprus. Saying that having international publication is a prerequisite for graduating from the doctoral program, Prof. Dr. Kılıç congratulated Laiba Ali for her success, stating that it was a source of pride for them to receive the best paper award at such a prestigious international conference while Laiba Ali is still continuing her doctoral studies.
