Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University, Center for Cyprus Studies (EMU CCC) in collaboration with the European Mediterranean Art Association (EMAA), 2nd retrospective exhibition of Gönen Atakol entitled “Down the Line” started at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center on Monday 24 March 2014. The exhibition inauguration was held by EMU Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak. The previous exhibition which took place in 2013 was also jointly organised by Center for Cyprus Studies (EMU CCC) and the European Mediterranean Art Association (EMAA). The retrospective exhibition which was inaugurated on 24 March 2014 is considered as the continuation of the first one.
Curated by Dr. Esra Plümer and coordinated by EMU academic staff member Zehra Şonya, the exhibition features the works of Gönen Atakol with a historical perspective, from the beginning to date. Along with paintings, the enlarged exhibition displays sketches, design and photography work of the artist. In the catalogue which contains about 120 works of art, Dr. Esra Plümer’s and Zehra Şonya’s scripts are also available.
The exhibition which is taking place with the support of Eastern Mediterranean University and the TRNC President’s Office will be open for art lovers during week days between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. until 14 May 2014.
