Organized annually by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Sports Affairs Directorate, “Basketball Cup of Nations” tournament ended with the final matches played on Tuesday, 10 December 2024 at Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) team completed the tournament as the champions, followed by the teams of Nigeria, Türkiye and Sudan, respectively in second, third and fourth places.
Delivering a speech at the awards ceremony, EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu congratulated all the students participating in the tournament. In her speech, Prof. Dr. Zorlu noted that the tournament brings students from different nationalities together and that these kinds of events are sources of pride for EMU.
Awards Presented
An awards ceremony was held after the final matches, where top four teams were presented with medals and top 3 teams with cups. Moreover, athletes who were deemed worthy of awards for their individual performances were presented with various gifts. The ‘Most Valuable Player’ award received by Halil Çetinyay, ‘Slam Dunk’ award to Gabriel and, ‘Three-Pointer’ award to Grayson. Players placed in the tournament were presented with gifts.
Following the matches, achieving teams and successful players received their awards from EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu, EMU Sports Affairs Directorate Supervisor Osman Konnolu, EMU Sports Affairs Directorate Sports Affairs Coordinator Aydın Kayol, EMU Sports Affairs Directorate Basketball Trainer Cüneyt Doğan, EMU Sports Affairs Directorate academic staff member Beha Karabulutoğlu and EMU Sports Affairs Directorate personnel member Enver Tatlıcıoğlu.
