A cooperation protocol has been signed between the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of Public Works and Transportation. The protocol was signed by TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transportation Resmiye Canaltay and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın. The cooperation protocol in question covers issues aiming to develop scientific and academic cooperation between the University and the Ministry, to ensure that university students can do internships at the Ministry, to develop joint projects for the benefit of the society in the field of Public Works and Transportation and to encourage mutual work.
The signing ceremony took place on Thursday, 19 August, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the EMU Rector’s Office Meeting Hall. President of EMU Board of Trustees Dr. Erdal Özcenk, EMU Board of Trustees Member Ersun Kutup, EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Aktuğlu, Vice Rector for Administrative and Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Serhan Şensoy and Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu attended the said ceremony.
In his speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın stated that cooperation is extremely important for the integration of the university with the community of the region as well as for the strengthening of the infrastructure. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın also added that support has always been available and will continue as usual. Noting that the university is ready to mobilize the institutional structure and its accumulation in the academic and scientific fields in the projects of the ministry, Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated that students will also be provided with the opportunity to do internships at the Ministry. Expressing that EMU is one of the largest institutions in the field of higher education, Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated that they are carrying out work in order to start face-to-face education in the new academic year. At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Hocanın wished that the protocol in question would be beneficial for both institutions.
In his speech, EMU Board of Trustees President Dr. Özcenk stated that they are extremely pleased to host the Minister of Public Works and Transportation in EMU. Emphasizing that EMU is getting better and better with each passing day, Dr. Özcenk also underlined that as a result of the signed protocol, students will have internship opportunities.
Minister of Public Works and Transportation Canaltay stated that she is extremely pleased to be at EMU. Canaltay said, “EMU is our home, our homeland. For years, we have tried to cooperate in every way for the development of both Famagusta and the university. As the Ministry, we will continue to cooperate to ensure the development of both the ministry and the youth.”. Stating that she believes the Ministry will receive significant support from a distinguished university like EMU, Canaltay emphasized that universities should now contribute to the development and improvement of the country. Canaltay wished the signed protocol to be beneficial for all parties.
