Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Law organised a panel titled “The Right to Protection of Personal Data and the Role of Personal Data Protection Boards in the Protection of Rights” in Faculty of Law LA1 Hall.
The opening address of the panel on "The Right to Protection of Personal Data and the Role of Personal Data Protection Boards in the Protection of Rights" was delivered by Dean of Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Turgut Turhan. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Turhan emphasized that the protection of personal data has become a very important issue in today's world. EMU Faculty of Law academic staff member and TRNC Personal Data Protection Board Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demet Çelik Ulusoy, who was also the chair of the panel, President of the Republic of Turkey Personal Data Protection Authority Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Personal Data Protection Board President Hürol Mear contributed to the panel with their speeches.
The significance of raising awareness about the rights and freedom violated in the digital environment and raising awareness about the protection of personal data were points of discussion in the panel. After the presentations in the panel, a discussion session was also held. At the end of the panel Prof. Dr. Turgut Turhan presented the speakers Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demet Çelik Ulusoy and Hürol Mear plaques of appreciation for their participation.

Prior to the panel Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir and his team and Vice Deans of the Faculty of Law Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arzu Alibaba and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hakan Bilgeç, faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Demet Çelik Ulusoy and Hürol Mear, paid a visit to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın. After receiving information about the panel, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın presented Faruk Bilir and his team Cypriot Lefkara boards.
