With over 20 thousand students from 106 different countries, the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is known for its large international student organizations. The 9th International EMU Futsal Tournament commenced on Monday, the 26th of March 2018 with a magnificent opening ceremony at the Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex. The opening ceremony of the 2018 Cup of Nation Futsal tournament commenced at 17:00.
Parallel to the increasing popularity of the tournament, this year over 500 active students from 30 countries will be competing in 30 men’s and 7 women’s teams from different countries. Present at the opening ceremony of EMU Cup of Nation Futsal 2018, the TRNC’s biggest international student organization were EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Board of Trustees Member Recai Ergün, Vice Rector for International Affairs and Promotion Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, Vice Rector for Administrative and Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Özgür Eren, EMU Student Affairs Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Subaşı, Sport Affairs Direcor Cemal Konnolu, Public Relations and Press Office Director (a.) Murat Aktuğralı, EMU personnel and thousands of students.
Respect, Friendship and Unity
The opening ceremony commenced with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by a speech from EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam. Welcoming all students, Prof. Dr. Osam underlined that respect, friendship and unity are the timeless values of EMU. Wishing all students the best of luck in their academic and sporting activities, Prof. Dr. Osam highlighted that EMU students are lucky to be participating in such a colorful and multicultural event.
The group matches of the tournament will be played between the 26th of March and 6th of April 2018. The quarter and semi-finals will be played on the 9th of April 2018. The finals will be held on the 10th of April 2018.
