Within the framework of Eastern Mediterranean University’s International Career Week, EMU Health Sciences Faculty, School of Health Services, First and Emergency Aid Program hosted Gürkan Özel, Turkish Intensive Care Transport and Flight Paramedic Expert, Başkent University Paramedic Program academic staff member, Paramedic Association Deputy Chair, Transport Medical Association Chair, Paramedic Trainer Association Chair, Coordinator of AHA and PHTLS in Turkey.
Gürkan Özel started his talk by presenting examples from Paramedic Training in different countries. Sharing the educational differences, strengths and weaknesses of the said trainings in different countries, Özel also talked about career choices for paramedics, undergraduate studies and academic career possibilities, requirements for intensive care transport paramedics, flight paramedics, requirements for specialising in paramedics, workplace paramedics, public and administrative paramedic possibilities, workplace health and security and international career choices. Özel also put forth that regardless of their career choices, paramedics need a strong clinical background, a personality open to development, respect towards the profession and self confidence. At the end of his talk, Özel answered questions from students.
