Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and the Directorate of Civil Defence Organization signed a collaboration protocol with the aim of improving mutual efforts in the fields of scientific, social, cultural, academic, professional and educational endeavours. Civil Defence Organization Director Atilla Karaca and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç signed the said protocol during a Protocol Signing Ceremony held on Wednesday, 25 September, 2024 at EMU Rector’s Office building. Present during the signing ceremony were; EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe, Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu, Rector’s Office Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Çelik and Civil Defence Organization Section Chief Hasan Özboltaşlı.
Addressing the participants of the signing session, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç conveyed their contentment on collaborating with the Civil Defence Organization, hoping that with the signed protocol, foundations of new beginnings would be laid. Expressing that they have worked with the Civil Defence Organization in the previous years, Prof. Dr. Kılıç stressed that the signed protocol will ensure that the knowledge and experience exchanged between the two institutions would continue to strengthen. Prof. Dr. Kılıç also stated his hope that the signed protocol would be beneficial for both parties.
Civil Defence Organization Director Atilla Karaca also delivered a speech, saying that they are glad to be in a collaboration with EMU, the most important and oldest university of the country. Karaca continued his words with: “We are glad to have you; the future of the country is in your hands”. Karaca also touched on their longstanding strong relationship with EMU and stressed that their collaboration would continue to expand. Lastly, Karaca also expressed his hope that the protocol would bring positive outcomes.

The signed collaboration protocol aims to strengthen awareness and sensitivity on relevant issues between both institutions, while also fostering joint projects that benefit the Organization’s members, staff, and the broader community. Moreover, it seeks to organize various meetings and events. As part of the agreement, all employees of the Civil Defence Organization will have access to discounted educational programs, courses, and certification opportunities provided by EMU, both currently available and those planned for the future.
