The four-year integrative curriculum which has been prepared to fulfill this mission provides the opportunity for students to acquire the background needed towards a creative and fruitful career. It is frequently revised and updated to keep abreast of the latest developments.
The main focus of the educational approach is on the architectural design studio supported by professional theory courses and first year service courses. The interactive studio, as the proper arena for critical thinking, provides a milieu for addressing social, technical and environmental issues around an architectural project, through the re-creation and discussion of the spatial dimension of the built environment. The curriculum is flexible in that it offers students the chance to take elective courses from other departments or faculties to support an interdisciplinary approach.
Departmental Facilities
EMU’s central library houses a wide collection of books and periodicals related to art and architecture. The Department also provides a special reading room, offering a wide range of valuable architectural periodicals and books to students. Modern studios provide a perfect milieu for exchange of ideas and individual areas for students to work on their projects. There are three well-equipped CAD labs, one materials lab, one on environmental control systems, one on model making, and one photography lab at the students’ service. Additionally, Design and Research Center (TASAR) and Housing Education Research and Advisory Center (HERA-C) of the Faculty is among the educational facilities which the students of the Department make use of.

With increasing demand for enrollment from Turkey and the third countries, the student body in the Department is increasing in number, but one to one relationship between the student and the instructors in design studios is still sustained; in a democratic milieu of education where free discussions and creativity are valued.
