Mr. Hindrek Lootus

Lecturer of European Studies at the Institute of Political Science and Governance, Tallinn University, Estonia

Mr Hindrek Lootus works as a lecturer of European Studies at the Institute of Political Science and Governance, Tallinn University, Estonia. He graduated with an MSc (Chemical Engineering) from Tallinn Technical University Estonia in 1992 and got his MA (Political Science) from Tampere University Finland in 1997. He has worked as a pre-accession adviser for the Estonian Ministry of Environment during the Estonian EU integration process and accession negotiations in 1997 – 2001. He was an adviser for the Chancellery of the Parliament of Estonia in 2001. He has been working at different positions at Tallinn University since 2002. He teaches Political Science, Environmental Policy, Law and different subjects related to theoretical basis and practical functions of Europe. His scholarly interests include all the aforementioned topics, plus EU foreign, security policy and foreign relations; Greek-Turkish-EU relations; ‘frozen conflicts’ in Europe and the neighbouring countries (particularly the Cyprus problem); as well as domestic EU and international consumer policy issues. He is currently writing a book about Cyprus, based mostly on his personal reflections to introduce the Island, its two communities and societies more comprehensively to a wider Estonian audience.

From mid-November 2013 until mid-January 2014 he is a visiting scholar and grant holder at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Eastern Mediterranean University in North Cyprus. His research and stay in Cyprus is supported by the European Social Fund in the framework of the DoRa programme, which is carried out by Foundation Archimedes.
