Legal and Ethical Issues in Communication (COMM459)
The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with international and local legislative regulations concerning the media as well as the broader realm of ethical issues in communication. The focus on case studies is meant to develop the student’s competence in ethical reasoning. While topics discussed each semester will draw on contemporary and timely ethical concerns in the media, the course will generally include timeless media ethics problems including censorship, pornography, crime, stereotypes, racist and sexist discrimination, the aged, and the responsibility of the media to children.
