Eastern Mediterranean University’s 23rd Spring Festival commenced with Bob Marley’s son Ky-Mani Marley’s concert. With his unique reggae and hip hop performance, Marley thrilled his fans who had memorable moments. At the end of the concert, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. M. Yaşar Özden presented Marley a silver plate for his contributions.
Festival Commenced with a Cortege Walk
The first event of the 23rd Spring Festival was held with a cortege walk talking place from Famagusta Youth Academy to university campus at 5:30 p.m. on 17 May, 2017. Participated by Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rectors, EMU staff and students, the cortege walk hosted colorful moments. The official opening of the festival took place at the festival area at 7:00 p.m. with the participation of EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rectors and Special Olympics Turkey Executive Board Chair Mehmet Civelek.
Workshop was Held
As part of the activities taking place on the first day of the festival, a seminar and workshop participated by artist Prof. Martin R. Baeyens took place at 11:00 a.m. Organised by the Visual Arts Club, the event was held at Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department’s Exhibition Hall.
A Conference by İlker Başbuğ
Within the framework of the 23rd Spring Festival, Eastern Mediterranean University Atatürk Ideology Club hosted the 26th Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces İlker Başbuğ. İlker Başbuğ gave a conference entitled “Current Problems of Turkey” at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 17 May 2017.
The first day of the festival also hosted a backgammon tournament, Mathematics Club’s go-sudoku-checkers and rubik cube games, ultAslan EMU’s banner painting competition, Genetic Club’s DNA isolation, Mountaineering and Nature Sports Club’s climbing activity, Gnçtrkcll’s recreational games, and Cinema Club’s open air movie screening. The second stage of the festival also hosted The Consonants 1 concert, international student communities’ shows, EMU Music Club’s performance and zumba shows at 7:00 p.m.
