Within the scope of the Eastern Mediterranean University Community Involvement Center’s civic involvement projects, a blood donation organisation and an informative seminar were organised by Genesis IMC Agency operating under EMU Communication Faculty in collaboration with the North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent.
Taking place at EMU Atatürk Square under the theme “Blood Donation: Not an Emergency but a Continuity” between 5 and 9 March 2018, the event is supported by North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent. Until 9 March 2018, a special vehicle providing a sterile environment for blood donations will be available at the said place for volunteers wishing to donate blood.
Along with the blood donation campaign, an informative seminar aiming to highlight and stress the importance of blood donation was held at EMU Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall on Tuesday, 6 March 2018. The speaker at the seminar was the Turkish Red Crescent, Adana Branch Regional Director Zeliha Ertunç, who provided information on the mission and vision of the Turkish and North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent. Ertunç also touched upon the important points to be taken into consideration by the blood donors. Stating that those wishing to donate blood should not have cancer, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and AIDS, Ertunç also added that a person wishing to donate blood should have the minimum weight of 50 kgs. Stressing the fact that awareness on blood donation should be raised, Ertunç put forth that compared to developed countries, the number of blood donors both in Turkey and the TRNC is relatively low. At the end of the seminar, Ertunç invited everyone to donate blood.
At the end of the event, students of EMU Public Relations and Advertising Department and Genesis IMC Agency invited all members of EMU and the TRNC Community to donate blood until 9 March 2018.
