The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Atatürk Ideology Club (ADK) organised a trip to Anıtkabir from the 11th to the 13th of November 2016. The trip organized by EMU-ADK Chair M. Çağatay Kır took place under the guidance of EMU Atatürk Research Center (ATUM) Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Cicioğlu and ATUM members Dr. Turgay Bülent Göktürk and Süheyla Göktürk. The trip began with visit to the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
At Anıtkabir, the group placed a wreath onto Atatürk’s mausolea also signing Anıtkabir’s special notebook indicating their commitment to Atatürk’s principles. The EMU-ADK group also explored the “Atatürk and Turkish War of Independence Museum” located in a 3 thousand square meter area under the Hall of Honour where Atatürk’s mausolea is located. The group then handed a commemorative plaque to the Anıtkabir Commandership.
During the trip, the group also visited the first and second parliament chambers before visiting the Ankara Castle and the Çankaya Köşk museum; the place where Atatürk stayed from 1921 to 1932. The group also visited Polatlı, the place where the Battle of Sakarya took place as well as the Supreme Headquarters of the Turkish Armed Forces in Alagöz, the Logistic Command Base in Mallıköy and the Sakarya Marty's Memorial in Polatlı. The group was met in Polatlı by Artillery and Missile School Commander, Brigadier General Hurşit Ağırcan. Ağırcan was also presented a commemorative plaque. Finally, before returning to the TRNC, the group visited Gordion where King Midas’ tumulus located in the Yassıhöyük village.
