Eastern Mediterranean University Özay Oral Library is celebrating the 51st Library Week through various activities taking place between 30 March and 5 April 2015. On 30 March 2015, at 10:00 a.m., celebrations commenced with a mini concert taking place under the conductorship of Eastern Mediterranean University, Fine Arts Education Department, Music Teaching Program Chorus Conductor Erkan Dağlı. Following the concert, at 10:15 a.m. the opening of an exhibition entitled “Non-vanishing Values” organised in memory of late artist Ali Atakan took place at the Library Exhibition Hall. In the same venue, a “Memory Corner” has been set up in memory of the famous Turkish writer Yaşar Kemal. The exhibition and the memory corner will be open for visitors between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m from 30 March to 3 April 2015.
Exhibition organiser Leyla Çınar Algül stated that late artist Ali Atakan posed important contributions to culture and arts. Algül added that they are happy to open an exhibition in memory of Atakan. Following Algül’s address, students whose photos are exhibited at the event are presented certificates of appreciation by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu.
The opening conference of the 51st Library Week of EMU Özay Oral Library, was delivered by EMU Education Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam. Entitled “The Place of Libraries in the World of Digital Locals”, the conference took place at EMU Library Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. The opening address of the conference was delivered by EMU Özay Oral Library Director Osman Soykan. At the end of the conference, Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca presented a bouquet of flowers and a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Osam for her contributions to the event.
At 10:30 a.m. on 31 March 2015, a talk event on author Gürol Özkaya’s recent books entitled “Paphos and Things I Can Remember” and “Diagnosis” will take place with the participation of the aforesaid author.
Within the framework of the week, the university will be distributing books free of charge to support students’ academic and personal development. The event will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from 30 March to 3 April 2015.
