Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine celebrated 14 March Medicine Day on Monday, 14 March 2022, at 09:00 a.m. EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın and Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora, faculty members and students of Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty attended the event.
14 March Medicine Day, which started with the laying of a wreath to the Atatürk Monument by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın and Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora, continued with a Moment of Silence and the National Anthem. Speaking about the meaning and importance of the day, Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora stated that they are observing this day with a heavy heart due to the pandemic that shook the whole world, and stated that March 14 is a day of respect for doctors who try to save the lives of their patients despite the bad conditions.
Noting that the birthday of the immortal leader who had great contributions in the struggle for an independent and free life in the TRNC, Dr. Fazıl Küçük, is also on 14 March, Prof. Dr. Gökçora emphasized that they commemorate the great leader with respect and pride. Prof. Dr. Gökçora also added that Dr. Küçük is an exemplary person with his doctor, competitive, self-sacrificing, helpful and human-loving leader personality who stands by his people and patients in all circumstances. Expressing that they will train doctors who follow the path of such a leader and doctor, Prof. Dr. Gökçora stated that medicine is not just a profession, but a way of life. Emphasizing that loving life, respecting the differences, and a lifetime of selfless and disciplined work are the most basic qualities of this lifestyle. Prof. Dr. Gökçora thanked all doctors, healthcare professionals, students and interns for their perseverance and dedication to the profession, and concluded her speech by extending her best wishes to all on 14 March Medicine Day and her hope for all doctors to reach the days filled with safe working conditions and rewards for their efforts.
Speaking after Prof. Dr. Gökçora, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın started his speech by emphasizing that the importance and value of health workers who have been working selflessly day and night during the pandemic process is once again understood. Expressing that important work was also carried out at EMU during this period, Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated that doctors’ efforts and contributions are priceless in this respect.. Emphasizing that the education process, long working hours, continuous self-development and touching people's health are all very important and that it is not possible to repay doctors’ contributions to health, Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın mentioned the importance of these special days to show appreciation for these efforts. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın thanked all health workers for the devoted effort and concluded his speech by extending his best wishes to them on 14 March Medicine Day.
