Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Communication and Media Studies hosted EMU graduate independent film producers Vasvi Çiftçioğlu and Doğuş Özokutan within the framework of the 5th International Career Week. In the talk titled “Independent Cinema and Low Budget Film Studies” which was organised by the Radio, Cinema and Television Department, Çiftçioğlu and Özokutan shared their professional experiences with students.
During his opening speech, EMU Faculty of Communication and Media Studies Academic Staff Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Yetin Arslan talked about Çiftçioğlu and Özokutan’s achievements in the production of low budget films thanking them for their participation. The talk that started with the screening of Çiftçioğlu and Özokutan’s short film continued with the duo providing information about the technicalities of low budget film production.
“Producing a Low Budget Film Requires Very Good Planning”
Speaking about how to make a good film with a low budget Çiftçioğlu and Özokutan stated that the first step is to have a good scenario. In addition, they noted that very good planing is also required. Speaking about the opportunities available for students Çiftçioğlu and Özokutan indicated that international film festivals provide many opportunities and advised the students to make use of faculty equipment and knowledge obtained in class. The talk ended after audience’s questions and a group photo.
