Eastern Mediterranean University celebrated ‘World Pharmacists Day’ with different activities. The first activity marking the said day was the Cyprus Turkish Pharmacists Association Former Chair Fatma Azgın’s talk on Cyprus Turkish Pharmaceutics. Prior to Azgın’s talk Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Ozan Gülcan provided information about the scope of the day and extended his best wishes to all pharmacists. Among those present at the talk were Dean of EMU Pharmacy Faculty Prof. Dr. Mustafa Fethi Şahin, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Ozan Gülcan, and academic staff and students of Faculty of Pharmacy.
“Existing Regulations Should Be Harmonised In Line With Sectoral Changes”
The Cyprus Turkish Pharmacists Association Former Chair Fatma Azgın thanked EMU Faculty of Pharmacy for their invitation and provided information about World Pharmacists Day. Highlighting the fact that the profession of pharmaceutics is closely linked with laws and scientific information, Azgın stated that pharmacists should be well aware of the rules and regulations when performing their profession. Providing information on the history of pharmaceutics, Azgın added that within 100 years, there will be no need for pharmacists as patients will be able to order the medicine online. Azgın also stated that just like changes in sociology and humanity, rapid changes in the world of medicine are taking place. In this respect, Azgın put forth that laws and regulations should undergo rapid changes, accordingly. The talk came to an end after Azgın providing information about the history of pharmaceutics in the TRNC.
“Pharmaceutics Is A Profession With Utmost Importance”
Within the framework of the World Pharmacists Day celebrations, a panel titled “The Joint Role of Pharmacists and Doctors in Health” took place with the participation of Pediatric Health and Diseases Specialist Dr. Umut Altunç and Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Dr. Şerife Göksu. During the panel, Dr. Umut Altunç delivered a presentation on prescriptions with a special focus on how they should be written and what kind of information they should contain. Dr. Altunç also provided information on prescriptions which contain errors or missing information.
After Dr. Altunç, Dr. Şerife Göksu provided recent information on birth, caeserean operations and pregnancy period. Recommending that people should pay utmost care to their health during the pregnancy period and not use any medication without doctor’s recommendation, Dr. Şerife Göksu also provided information on the health hazards caeseran operations pose on female health and how they could be treated. At the end of the panel, Dean of EMU Pharmacy Faculty Prof. Dr. Mustafa Fethi Şahin presented Dr. Altunç and Dr. Göksu a gift made of traditional lefkara lace in appreciation for their contributions. The final event of the celebrations was the blood donation organisation which took place in front of EMU Faculty of Pharmacy.
