EMU Students’ Educational Project to Ziyamet Elementary School

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Tourism, Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts students visited the Ziyamet Elementary School and carried out an educational design project. As part of the project which was organized with the contributions of EMU Community Involvement Center, EMU students identified the needs of school garden with the help of elementary school’s administration and significantly contributed in the improvement process of the basketball field.

Carried out under the guidance of Chair of the EMU Community Involvement Center Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazenin Ruso Kandemir, the students applied creative designs they prepared for the field and garden of the elementary school. With this approach, EMU students aimed to strengthen the education side of the school garden. While they designed play areas to promote physical activities like hopscotch and obstacle courses, the students also created educational spaces featuring the Turkish and English alphabets and the days of the week. This project successfully achieved its goal of enhancing both the academic and social skills of the students at Ziyamet Elementary School.

Making remarks on the topic, EMU Faculty of Tourism Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mine Haktanır said; “This meaningful project showcased our students’ ability to turn their knowledge and skills into a valuable contribution to society, fuelled by their sense of social responsibility. By contributing to Ziyamet Elementary School, they not only created an educational and informative space but also highlighted the significance of community service. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the students who participated and to everyone who played a role in making this project a reality”.
