Eastern Mediterranean University Urban Research & Development Center (EMU-URDC) and EMU Architecture Faculty, Department of Architecture hosted Bilkent University Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Department.
The Bilkent University Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Department arrived at EMU to participate in Famagusta Old Town and Varosha (Maraş) regional projects that are also attended by EMU Architecture Faculty, Department Urban Design postgraduate students. A total of 42 students and 5 members of academic staff attended the projects carrying out a range of field work.

During the visit of Bilkent University Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Department, a panel about Urban Design Competitions took place at the SS. Peter and Paul Church. The panel that discussed urban design processes in the context of urban design competitions included Bilkent University academicians Dr. Oktan Nalbantoğlu and Hatice Karaca, as well as Cypriot architect and EMU Department of Architecture academic staff member Burak Türsoy.
In addition, a workshop targeted towards students took place as a result of the Architecture Faculty, EMU-URDC and Bilkent University collaboration. The products of the “City and Democracy”, “Heritage and Legacy” themed workshops, in which ideas for Famagusta were produced, are expected to be exhibited as a poster presentation in an international forum in Germany during May 2017. EMU Architecture Faculty and Bilkent University Urban Design and Landscape Architecture Department are expected to continue with their collaborations.
