Executive board member of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) and Belgium Vrije University academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nico Carpentier delivered a seminar in Eastern Mediterranean University.
During the seminar which took place at EMU Communication Faculty, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nico Carpentier talked about “How to Carry Out Research on the Participative Process”.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Carpentier talked about how the concept of participation perceived theoretically from media to arts or from communication to economics and added that in today’s world participation is not available everywhere. Carpentier believes that “There is a difference between being present at a place and participating”. He added that people visit exhibitions but they are not considered as participants in that context. Similarly, according to Carpentier, those using the social network would not be considered as “participants”. Towards the end of the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nico Carpentier also gave examples from the difficuly of being a participant in an environment of which we have no control.
