Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University Graduate Relations and Career Research Directorate in collaboration with Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry and Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce, 4th International Career week commenced with an opening conference which took place at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall at 10:00 a.m. on 28 March 2016.
Commencing with a moment of silence and the national anthem, the event’s official opening was held with the opening address of the Chair of Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce Fikri Toros. Expressing his pleasure in collaborating with EMU in this meaningful organisation, Toros stated that they will try their best efforts to support the formation of students’ career plans. During his speech, Toros told the students that the experience they will be gathering throughout the Career Week will pose important contributions to their prospective career plans. Toros also advised the students to choose the profession at which they will be the most productive.
Following Toros, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan stated that the said organisation will enhance the career plans of students as the event will act as a platform bringing together business executives with students.
Mayor of Famagusta İsmail Arter also delivered a speech in which he stated that students should make good use of the Career Week. Arter also advised students not to lose the inner spirit when establishing their career plans.
Following the opening addresses, Turkey Coca-Cola Beverage General Director delivered a conference talk entitled “The Expectations of Today’s Business World in the Career Path”. During his presentation, Atasayan expressed his fascination with EMU’s consistent development over the years and, at the same time, highlighted the university’s important contribution towards the economy of Famagusta and Northern Cyprus.
Atasayan also provided detailed information about the important points to be considered when forming career plans. Putting forth that every business professional should be open to change and development, Atasayan advised the students to be inquisitive in the path towards success. At the end of his presentation, Atasayan was presented a frame made of traditional Lefkara Lace by Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Pulhan.
On the first day of “International Career Week”, VIP Tourism Executive Board Chair Ceylan Pirinçcioğlu, Ankara Pediatric Health and Diseases Hematology and Oncology Education and Research hospital Nutrition and Dietetics Department Chief Dietitian Dr. Nevra Koç, Gazi University Microbiology Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Meltem Yalınay, Afyon Karahisar State Hospital Anaesthesia General Coordinator Kemal Özkara, Chef Academy Turkey Chef Trainer Ramazan Ceylan, Kadir Albaş from Non-governmental Organisation Headquarters, Hacettepe University Health Sciences Faculty, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Mintaze Kerem Günel, Gökhan Aksoy and Tunahan Erdağ from Gökhan Aksoy Architecture and Deputy General Director Özge Şirikçi from Bridgestone Europe shared their experiences with the students of EMU.
The official opening of the “4th Career Fair” taking place with the participation of over 90 firms offering numerous internship and career opportunities for students will be held at Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Center at 10:00 a.m. on 1 April 2016
