Eastern Mediterranean University Özay Oral Library continues to celebrate the 51st Library Week with various activities taking place between 30 March and 5 April.
Within the framework of the week, at 10:30 a.m. on 31 March 2015, a talk event on author Gürol Özkaya’s recent books entitled “Paphos and Things I Can Remember” and “Diagnosis” took place with the participation of the aforesaid author. During the talk, Özkaya provided information about the books’ contents and, at the same time, shared his experiences with the participants.
On the other hand, on 1 April Wednesday, a book reading activity took place at EMU Library yard at 12:30 p.m. The event had the aim of increasing the interest and awareness of public towards libraries as well as reading and developing a reading culture. Famagusta Mayor and President of the Board of Trustees İsmail Arter, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu, Education Faculy Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam, Public Relations and Press Office Director Derviş Ekşici, academic and administrative staff and students took part in the activity taking place both in Turkey and the TRNC under the organisation of the Association for Turkish Librarians.
Addressing the participants of the silent reading activity, Arter stated that developments in technology affected the reading habits negatively and almost made it non-existent among the new generation. Arter added that reading books yield positive outcomes for each and every individual and, thus, it should be integrated into one's lifestyle as a habit. EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Osam added that books are our guides and the frequency of activities as such should be increased. Prof. Dr. Osam also expressed his pleasure in taking part in the silent reading activity and thanked Famagusta Mayor and President of the Board of Trustees İsmail Arter and EMU Özay Oral Library Director Osman Soykan.
Within the framework of the 51st Library Week, on 1 April 2015, Director of TechKnowledge and Turnitin Representative of Turkey, Altan Gürsel delivered a seminar entitled “Turnitin: Plagiarism and Copying Analysis Program: Promotion and Training Seminar.
As part of the week, the university will be distributing books free of charge to support students’ academic and personal development. The event will take place at EMU Stadium between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from 30 March to 3 April 2015.
