Two competitions took place at the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Engineering Faculty through the organization of the Department of Industrial Engineering Student Club (IE-Club). The European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management (ESTIEM) is one of the world’s largest Industrial/Management Engineering student associations. ESTIEM’s “TIMES” competition and Turkey’s Industrial/Management Engineering student organization Industrial Engineering Community Association’s (IECA) Case Study competition took place at the faculty one week apart.
A total of 80 Industrial Engineering student clubs from 31 countries are a member of ESTIEM which is the world’s largest student club association. EMU’s Industrial Engineering Student Club IE-Club is the only student club from both sides of the island to become a member of ESTIEM.
EMU Industrial Engineering Department academic staff members Prof. Dr. Bela Vizvari, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahand Daneshvar and Kağan Doğruyol were members of jury at the TIMES analysis competition. Despite many successful student presentations the jury chose the group comprising Surafeal Megose, Ahmad Alshool, Hela Mathlouthi and Sultan Asanaliev to represent EMU in the semi-finals set to take place on the 29th of January 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden.
14 Turkish university Industrial Engineering student clubs including EMU’s IE-Club, are a member of IECA which is Turkey’s largest student club association. IECA Case Study Competition aims for Industrial Engineering students to face the difficulties of working by being introduced to the problems they are likely to come across during work and to gain experience about projects they are likely to be involved in and crises they are likely to manage.
According to information provided by EMU Industrial Engineering Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan İzbırak, the jury members of the Case Study Competition were Dağlı Trading co-Director Dr. Orhan Dağlı and Industrial Engineering Department academic staff member Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahand Daneshvar. Industrial Engineering and Management Engineering undergraduate students competed in groups of four and after serious evaluation, the group comprising of Yiğit Bilgin, Pınar Uz and Osman Küçükkaya were awarded first place. The team that won the competition will be representing EMU at the finals in March 2018 at Bilkent University in Turkey.
The attention EMU Industrial Engineering Student Club members showed towards competitors and jury members at both competitions earned the approval of other students and jury members.
