Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. Dr. Kudret Özersay visited Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) with his delegation.
The visit which took place on Wednesday, 19 August 2020, at 11:00 a.m. hosted information exchange on some projects carried out between the TRNC Deputy Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EMU and the decisions to be taken in the new academic year during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In press statement before the meeting, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın expressed that the meeting will focus on some of the projects carried out within the framework of the protocols between the Ministry and EMU and the measures taken and planned to be taken for the new academic year. Aykut Hocanın also stated that EMU, as a state university, will fulfill its duty by providing quality education and is fully ready for face-to-face, mixed or distance education, prioritizing the safety of its students and employees. Noting that they are trying to progress by producing systematic solutions in this developing process, Prof. Dr. Hocanın thanked Özersay for his visit.
Expressing that he feels at home at EMU, a distinguished institution he is proud to be a member of, Prof. Dr. Özersay stated that they came together for institutional collaborations and mutually benefit from each other’s expertise. Prof. Dr. Özersay added that as a state university, EMU provides assistance to the government by providing expertise on different issues. Prof. Dr. Özersay stated that one of the most important collaborations is Varosha. Putting forth that during this visit, within the context of the protocol, technical work and reports to be carried out by EMU in Varosha will be discussed and the next stage will be determined. Dr. Özersay noted that the second important issue to be discussed is the measures taken and planned for the new academic year in scope of the pandemic seriously affecting both our country and the world.
Prof. Dr. Özersay emphasized that the procedures applied especially for foreign students coming from abroad will be reviewed. Noting that the visit is covering these two basic issues, Prof. Dr. Özersay also wished EMU's new administration every success in this difficult period. After the press statements, Prof. Dr. Özersay and Prof. Dr. Hocanın answered the questions of the press members. Prof. Dr. Prof. Aykut Hocanın also presented a memorial plate to Prof. Dr. Özersay.
