Eastern Mediterranean University 2018-2019 Academic Year Spring Semester Postgraduate Graduation Ceremony took place at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, 1 July 2019. The ceremony could be viewed worldwide via EMU TV’s online broadcast. With over 20,000 students from 106 different countries, EMU is a locomotive institution of higher education that combines academic, social and cultural life. Living the excitement of graduating approximately 2,600 students in the Spring Semester of the present Academic Year, EMU continues to pay special attention to the organization of graduation week activities.
Representatives of the Nigerian Embassy in Ankara Ahmed Mohammed Monguno and Augustine Uche-Chukwu, Bologna University Rector’s Representative and Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Luca Mezzetti, Higher Education Planning, Accreditation and Coordination Council Board Member Hasret Balcıoğlu, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, Cyprus Social Sciences University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tümer, Institute of Graduate Studies and Research Director (a.) Prof. Dr. Ali Hakan Ulusoy, Vice Rectors, Deans, Department Chairs, academic staff members and over 450 postgraduate students and their families were present at the ceremony.
Emotional Moments
The ceremony commenced with the entrance of the 2018-2019 Academic Year Spring Semester graduates who entered the hall with music and a standing applause from parents and academicians who witnessed an emotional moment. The ceremony continued with a moment of silence and the national anthem followed by a classical music performance by EMU Education Faculty, Music Teaching Program students Burcu Arıkel (violin) and Zehra Türkseven (piano). After the musical performance EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Turkish Language and Literature Master’s Program graduate Ayşe Gürer delivered a speech on behalf of the 2018-2019 Academic Year Spring Semester graduates.
“We will not Act Like Robots”
Expressing her honor and pride in graduating from the most prominent university of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Gürer put forth that studying at a master’s program is a long journey which requires hard work and added that the graduates will contribute to the humanity and science. Gürer also promised that in the age of human-like robots, they will not act like robots as teacher candidates for future generations.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the 2018-2019 Academic Year Spring Semester graduates of doctoral programs, Business and Economics Faculty, Finance Department, PhD. program graduate Alexander Zabolotkov stated that EMU is one of the best universities of the world. Zabolotkov also thanked all participating families, academic staff and his fellow graduates for sharing their happiness on this meaningful day.
Prof. Dr. Osam Addressed Graduates
Addressing the graduates, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam extended his congratulations to all graduates. Also conveying his appreciation towards thesis supervisors and academic staff for their selfless contributions towards the success of the graduates, Prof. Dr. Osam also added that the valuable support and contributions of families in this process play an important role in the graduates’ achievements. Addressing the graduates, Prof. Dr. Osam said “Today, you have reached a certain level and intensity of thoughts in your chosen fields. These qualities will take you further and enhance your inquisition skills”.
Stating that on its 40th anniversary, EMU’s flower of science has become stronger, presenting the world its scientific outcomes, Prof. Dr. Osam, stated that EMU's place in the world rankings during the last three years, its research and field-oriented degrees deserve commendation.
The 2018-2019 Academic Year Spring Semester Graduation Ceremony for Postgraduate Programs continued with the awarding of diplomas to the graduates of doctoral programs. During the ceremony, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam also presented plaques of appreciation to thesis supervisors and co-supervisors. Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, who is also a thesis supervisor himself, was also presented a plaque by the Higher Education Planning, Accreditation and Coordination Council Board Member Hasret Balcıoğlu. Bologna University Rector’s Representative and Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Luca Mezzetti presented diplomas to the graduates of EMU - Bologna University “Comparative Law” Joint Master’s Program. Following the presentation of diplomas to the graduates of master’s program, the ceremony ended as EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam counted down from ten and the graduates tossed their caps in the air.
