The “2019 DNA Day Genome Editing Student Seminars” organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Biological Sciences took place at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall on the 25th of April 2019 at 10:00. The opening speeches of the seminars were delivered by EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu Oğurlu, Arts and Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Özarslan and Department of Biological Sciences Chair Prof. Dr. Bahar Taneri Güder. Final year Molecular Biology and Genetics undergraduate students tackled CRISPR–Cas technology from different angles at the seminar which was attended by a large number of students and academicians.

Student presentations commenced after the opening speeches. Molecular Biology and Genetics program 4th year student Palestinian national Safa Zaatry delivered a presentation titled “Genome Editing – CRISPR-Cas Technology”, Syrian national Yara Mazloum delivered a presentation titled “Generation of Cell and Animal Models of Human Diseases Through Genome Editing”, Chinese National Adili Abulimiti delivered a presentation titled “Genome Editing – Infectious Diseases”, Ethiopian national Biniam Zeleke Wondu delivered a presentation titled “Genome Editing – Cancer”, Egyptian national Omar Hamed Barakat delivered a presentation titled “Genome Editing – Neurological Diseases” and Iranian national Rouminasadat Hosseini delivered a presentation titled “Ethics of Heritable Germline Genome Editing” with Nigerian national Unwana Paul Ifum.
