“Mediterranean Shark” vehicle, designed and produced by the Electric Vehicle Development Center (EVDC) operating under Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector’s Office, passed the dynamic driving and technical control tests on the first try that took place between the 7th and 9th of August, 2018 for Electromobile 2018 Race organized by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBİTAK). “Mediterranean Shark” vehicle is to compete in the Electromobile Final Race between the 10th and 12th of August, 2018.
Ready for the Final
The “Mediterranean Shark” vehicle will be competing in Electromobile category. A team called “ADA” (Island) is formed among the EMU Engineering students which will take part during the competitions with the “Mediterranean Shark”. Team “ADA” is the only team from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) that is to participate in the competition. All the preparations for Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Final Race are completed.
Designed and Developed in EMU
Team “ADA” working on “Mediterranean Shark” project with the leadership of EMU Electric Vehicle Development Center (EVDC) Head Assist. Prof. Dr. Davut Solyalı, consists of Turkish and international students from both graduate and post-graduate programs. Design, development and production processes of “Mediterranean Shark” solely took place in EMU and the project is completed by the EMU students within the facilities of EMU (labs) without getting any external supports. Assist. Prof. Dr. Solyalı congratulated all the participating students for their efforts during the project and mentioned that the project obtained success through the efforts of the students. Assist. Prof. Dr. Solyalı finalized his statement with the following: “We have succeeded to complete the dynamic driving and technical control tests organized for Electromobile 2018 Races by TUBİTAK in one go. We received our label and we are very excited for the race”.
1.95 Kilometre-Long Track
Körfez Race Track, established by İstanbul Automobile Sports Club (İMK) in 1993, is under the tutelage of Turkey Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) and will host the Races. The facilities not only host the Turkish Championships but also host motor sports races in various categories. The race track is located on the North-east Coast of Marmara Sea and surrounds a small lake called Fener Lake. Körfez Race Track is 1.95 kilometers in total and consists of 9 bends.
