Publisher of the widely referenced university rankings worldwide, UK-based Times Higher Education (THE) announced the world’s top universities. Featuring 2,092 universities from 115 different countries, the said rankings listed Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) within the 601-800 band. In the THE World University Rankings for 2025, the University of Oxford ranked as the first followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of Harvard, respectively.
EMU – 1st in TRNC and 3rd in Türkiye
Total of 94 universities from Türkiye appeared on the said list in which, EMU ranked within the third highest band. Adding more, three universities from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) appeared on the list. According to the data provided to EMU by THE Database Datapoints, EMU was ranked as the top university, as it does every year.

Addressing the topic, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stressed that success is deeply rooted in EMU’s identity, noting that as a state university, EMU has consistently been a pioneer in the country and remains true to its founding mission by guiding the vision of the higher education sector, which is a key driver of the TRNC economy. Remarking that EMU’s regular presence among the top global universities in prestigious rankings like Times Higher Education, QS, U.S. News & World Report, and the Shanghai Ranking is no coincidence, Prof. Dr. Kılıç credited this achievement to the hardworking EMU staff, congratulated the entire EMU community, and expressed his hopes for their continued success.
