8th “Eastern Mediterrenean University (EMU) International Futsal Torunament” taking place under the organisation of the EMU Sports Affairs Directorate is set to begin on 22 March 2017. Parallel to the increasing student interest towards the tournament each passing year, 30 men’s and 10 women’s teams from different countries will be competing in the said tournament. The group matches will be played between 22 March and 4 April 2017. The quarter finals and semi finals will be played between 5 and 6 April 2017 and the final matches will take place on 19 April 2017.
EMU Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex will host the matches in six men’s and two women’s groups. The semifinalists will be determined after the cross match up between quarterfinalists which will consist of the first two leading teams in each men’s group. The losing teams in the semifinals will compete for the third place. In women’s tournament, the first two leading teams in each group will proceed directly to the semifinals after cross match ups. The winners of the semifinals will play the final game and losing teams will compete for the third place.
EMU Sports Affairs Unit Director Cemal Konnolu stated that the International Futsal Cup of Nation has become a tournament awaited with great interest of the students. Konnolu also added his pleasure in observing that the interest keeps increasing each year. Cemal Konnolu underlined that EMU is an institution of higher education which pays equal importance towards students’ academic, sports and social development. Cemal Konnolu also invited all members of the EMU community as well as the public to this unique, exciting and colorful event.
The opening ceremony of the “8th EMU International Futsal Cup of Nation” will take place on 22 March 2017, at 5:00 p.m., at Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex. Both the university students and staff as well as members of the community are invited to this important organization where different cultures will come together. The first day matches are will be taking place as follows:
