Famous Turkish sports columnist Ahmet Çakır paid a visit of courtesy to Eastern Mediterranean University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam. During the said visit which took place at 2:30 p.m. on 3 December 2015, collaboration with EMU and an international football tournament taking place in TRNC in April were topics of discussion.
Providing information about the football tournament, Ahmet Çakır stated that the first tournament took place in Germany with the participation of AYAZMA team. Established in 2009 by writers, actors, theatre players, musicians and caricaturists, AYAZMA team participated in a considerable number of matches both in Turkey and abroad. In the football tournament planned to take in TRNC in April 2016, teams formed by artists and authors from 10 different countries will be participating. Within the framework of the tournament, Turkish and Greek Cypriot sports columnists are also expected to form a team.
During Çakır’s visit, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that along with academic issues, Eastern Mediterranean University pays special attention to sports and, at the same time, regrets not being able to participate in international tournaments due to political reasons. Expressing their full support in the tournament planned to take place in April, Prof. Dr. Osam also stated their happiness in hosting Ahmet Çakır.
At the end of the visit at which Rector’s Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Arif Akkeleş and Director of Public Relations and Press Office Murat Aktuğralı were also present, Ahmet Çakır thanked Prof. Dr. Osam for his hospitality and presented his book entitled “108 Yıl’ın Aslanı” to him
