The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Education Faculty, Department of Elementary Education was represented at the 6th International Early Childhood Education Congress in Turkey hosted by Kafkas University. The main theme of the congress that featured scientific contributions of approximately 400 participants from 7 different countries was “Childhood Construction”. EMU Education Faculty, Department of Elementary Education Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eda Yazgın was invited to be a guest speaker at the 6th International Early Childhood Education Congress. In the panel titled “Early Childhood Education to Future from the Traditional”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın delivered her talk titled “Creativity and Aesthetics in Pre-Schools in Seoul and Moscow”.
Creative Skills are at the Forefront
Touching upon research carried out on the effects school environments have on the learning of children, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın stated that the best school designs are those that provide the best service to learning. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın also spoke about emotive materials supporting creativity and the functions of educational material that trigger imagination. Stating that new educational approaches that bring to prominence skills such as creative writing, entrepreneurship and social service are starting to draw attention, gain support and develop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın highlighted the importance of early childhood education by providing the example of Leonardo Da Vinci who shaped his designs with the inspiration he received from nature in the mountain village where he lived until the age of 14. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın emphasized the importance early childhood education whilst underlining that Da Vinci owed his creative genius to the experiences in his early life.
Releasing a statement about the congress, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın indicated that it was attended by a large number of academicians, school executives, non-governmental entrepreneurs and students. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın concluded by stating that the 7th International Early Childhood Education Congress will be taking place at Ege University in 2021.
