Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Health Sciences offers training seminars for the parents of children who receive special education.
EMU Health Sciences Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç stated the importance of parental education, especially in the case of children receiving special education. Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç added that parents educated in this respect may pose positive contributions to their children’s development and educational environment. Putting forth that “Scientific research has demonstrated that if parents with children with special needs benefit from family education and counseling services, they become more effective in their children’s personal and academic development”, Prof. Dr. Malkoç added that in this respect EMU Health Sciences Faculty is currently working on a series of seminars for the parents of children who receive education in Famagusta Special Education Center, which has been receiving rehabilitation services from EMU’s Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department for the past two years.
The first of the said seminars will take place at Famagusta Youth Center (MAGEM) at 6:00 p.m. on 3 November 2015. Entitled “The Role of Physiotherapy in Children with Special Needs”, the seminar will be delivered by EMU Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department academic staff members Prof. Dr. Emine Handan Tüzün and Zehra Güçhan.
