Conservation and Restoration Master's Program (Turkish without Thesis) (M.S., 1 - 1.5 Years)

The conservation of archaeological, historical, and industrial buildings, which are our tangible cultural heritage examples, is one of the professional responsibilities of architects. The diversity of issues, related to the restoration and conservation of heritage buildings, is beyond undergraduate education of architecture and this field requires specialization and a deeper learning process.

The Master's Program in Restoration and Conservation has been established to provide education for specialization on the proper conservation of cultural heritage sites/buildings. It aims to equip graduates of architecture and related disciplines with the necessary theoretical, technical, legal, and social knowledge required for the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.

Admission Requirements

Students accepted into the program who have obtained a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Building Science, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Art History, or Archaeology will not be required to complete a Scientific Preparation program. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in other fields may be assigned additional scientific deficiency courses if deemed necessary by the relevant master's committee.

The admission requirements for the Master's Program are as follows:

  1. Holding a bachelor's degree in Architecture or an equivalent degree in related fields.
  2. Fulfilling all application requirements, including interviews, as requested by the University and the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research.
  3. Successfully completing all deficinecy courses recommended by the Master's Committee under Conditional Admission.
  4. For Turkish citizens, submitting a valid ALES certificate with a minimum score of 55 in the quantitative category.

The Conservation and Restoration Master's Program is designed to provide proficiency in the field of Conservation and Restoration. It encompasses multi disciplines such as Architecture, Archaeology, Urban Design and Planning, Art History, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture, and related sub-disciplines.

The Conservation and Restoration Master's Program addresses critical topics in cultural heritage within a theoretical and practical framework. The non-thesis Conservation and Restoration Master's Program aims not only to specialize academicians and researchers in the field but also to train graduates who aspire to pursue specialized and practice-oriented careers in various national or international institutions.

Based on this approach, the non- thesis Conservation and Restoration Master's Program offers a shared academic platform for bachelor's degree holders in fields such as Architecture, Restoration, Conservation, Urban Design, Planning, Art History, Interior Architecture, and Archaeology. The interdisciplinary environment is fostered by allowing a wide range of students from different backgrounds to enroll.
