Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism academic staff member Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe ranked first in Europe, and fifth in the world in his research area.
The scientific paper “Knowledge Mapping of Hospitality Research- A Visual Analysis Using Citespace” was published in the International Journal of Hospitality Management and was written by Li, X, Ma, E. And Qu, H (2017). It examines scientific articles which were published in journals such as the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management (2009-2014), the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly (2008-2014) and the International Journal of Hospitality Management (2008-2014).
As part of the scientific paper; disciplines including the theory of knowledge used in hotel management were investigated, citations were surmounted, current research subjects determined, researchers from different countries working in collaboration with other university’s academic staff specified and core scholars in the field confined. According to the outcome of the research, Prof. Dr. Karatepe was shown as one of the core scholars in hotel management and was ranked first in Europe, and fifth in the world. Three of Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe’s articles were observed as having the most citations between the years 2008 and 2014.
Research results show that; Prof. Dr. Karatepe has moved up one place from where he was ranked in previous years. Taking into account previous bibliographical citations received by Prof. Dr. Karatepe as part of H- Index; he has 35 Google Scholar and Web of Science articles as well as 24 Scopus articles. These findings reveal that the citations received from high quality scientific journals are also important along with the number of articles a researcher has.
