Mayor of Mehmetçik Cemil Sarıçizmeli paid a courtesy visit to Eastern Mediterranean University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam. During the visit which took place at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, 29 January 2015, information exchange on tourism, education and possible collaborations took place.
Mehmetçik Mayor Sarıçizmeli provided detailed information on tourism and the development of the region. Stressing the fact that hard work is an indispensable element of success and change, Sarıçizmeli put forth that major investments aiming to increase the existing 3000 bed capacity to 6000 in 2016 were made in Karpaz and Bafra regions. Giving information on their collaborations with EMU Architecture Faculty, Sarıçizmeli also expressed that to ensure regional development, they need EMU’s ongoing support and expertise in various areas.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Osam stated the university’s readiness and pleasure to provide any kind of support possible. Putting forth that targets can be reached with a proper and suitable system, Prof. Dr. Osam expressed that dynamism and openness to innovation are important points in the field of education. Stating that EMU and Mehmetçik Municipality will establish prospective collaborations which would serve for the benefit of the society, Prof. Dr. Osam thanked the mayor for his visit.
Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca, Vice Rector for Administrative Affairs Prof. Dr. Bekir Özer and former Engineering Faculty academic staff member Prof. Dr. Hikmet Aybar, who is currently in our country to take part in a jury, also accompanied the Rector and Mayor of Mehmetçik during the meeting. At the end of the visit, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam presented a plate to Cemil Sarıçizmeli.
