Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Health Sciences organized a panel titled “Multidisciplinary Approaches to Diabetes” regarding the 14th of November, World Diabetes Day. The panel that took place on the 13th of November 2017, 2:30 p.m. at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Conference Hall discussed the current status and importance of diabetes in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkey, the importance and role of physical activity, nutrition, and nursing services regarding controlling and preventing diabetes.
With EMU Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç as moderator, the panel featured the presentations titled “The Current State Of Diabetes: Nursing Services In Diabetes” by Nursing Department academic staff member Asst. Prof. Dr. Handan Sezgin, “The Importance Of Nutrition In The Prevention And Control Of Diabetes” by Nutrition and Dietetics Department academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emine Yıldız and “Diabetes and Exercise” by Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasin Yurt.
Blue Circle formed at EMU Atatürk Square
In order to raise awareness about diabetes, EMU Health Sciences Faculty students formed a “blue circle” which is the symbol of diabetes. The event that took place at the EMU Atatürk Square on the 14th of November 2017 commenced at 12:30 p.m. Students shouted slogans about diabetic risk factor complications and diabetics’ lifestyles.
