Within the framework of Eastern Mediterranean University, Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School’s Community Involvement Projects, a group of students visited ‘Palm Beach” region located at the border of Closed Varoshia region of Famagusta with academic staff member Hakan Altuner.
During the visit, students’ attention was taken to the divided situation of the island due to the war which took place in 1974. Students also had a chance to closely observe the psychological, sociological, economic and cultural effects of war on the country’s situation. After the trip, students stated that they see themselves as peace ambassadors as they will spend their best efforts to avoid war wherever they live and exist in the future.
