Two Major Books on The Conservation of Architectural Heritage From EMU Academic Staff Member Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe

Two books titled “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Soul of History” and “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Traces of History” that evaluate the recent approaches in conservation of architectural heritage, coordinated and co-edited by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Architecture academic staff member and the Vice Chair of EMU Institute for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe, have been published.

New Books Contributing the Conservation of Architectural Heritage

Throughout the human history, all events contributed to the cultural accumulation from a social standpoint, ultimately creating the experiences that shape the cultural heritage. These accumulations and experiences, ensure that cultural heritage manifests as a key indicator of a community and the surrounding environment.

Conservation of architectural heritage, which is an important component of cultural heritage, has evolved into a global policy since the 20th century, supported by national and international agreements, laws, regulations, and directives. The main objective of these policies is to preserve cultural heritage sustainably and ensure its transmission to future generations.

Prepared in line with this awareness and published by the Journal of Architectural Sciences and Applications (JASA) and IKSAD Publishing House, the new two international books offer great contributions to the conservation of architectural heritage. Written in English language and based on blind review system, “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Soul of History” and “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Traces of History” consists of studies carried out by experts in their fields.

The “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Soul of History” co-edited by Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Damla Mısırlısoy, and “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Traces of History” co-edited by Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe and Prof. Dr. Atilla Gül, provide insights of the conservation of architectural heritage and aim to create an updated platforms by presenting new expansions.

A Thorough Review Process

Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe noted that they received 102 valuable submissions for the book titled “Conservation of Architectural Heritage”. Following a thorough review of these submissions, 39 works were chosen, and the editorial process commenced.

After the editorial process, the book titled “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Soul of History” contains 19 valuable chapters, and “Conservation of Architectural Heritage: Traces of History” includes 20. Prof. Dr. Günçe stressed the vital importance of preserving architectural heritage worldwide and in the region, particularly in terms of shaping identity and fostering peace. He also pointed out the need to align the preservation and utilization of architectural heritage with sustainable development principles.
