Eastern Mediterranean University Continuing Education Center (EMU-CEC) is ready to enter the new academic year with the training opportunities and projects the society needs. EMU-CEC has completed the relevant preparations to cater for the educational needs of the members of society at all agest and to deliver educational services outside the campus.
According to the written statement made by EMU-CEC Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy, EMU-CEC, which was established in 2004 to provide educational services to all stakeholders of the society with the understanding of lifelong education, continues its activities in line with this mission with EMU’s quality and assurance.
From Village Institutes to Continuing Education Centers
Stating that “In the current digital age, the need for quality and sustainable educational activities is increasing day by day,” EMU-CEC Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy emphasized that EMU-CEC's educational activities reach more and more people every day in order to keep up with the changing and developing business and living conditions.
Emphasizing that lifelong education is an added value to people's lives, EMU-CEC Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy said, "In the past, the lifelong education needs of the society were tried to be catered for through village institutes. Today these institutions have been replaced by Continuing Education Centers with their staff consisting of more modern, qualified and professional educators".
Continuous Education = Lifelong Education
Noting that the view that people continue to learn throughout their lives is not new, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy stated that changes in our business life, art, science and technology are rapid and the knowledge and skills of the employees should be refreshed at regular intervals. Adding that in the current digital age, learning activities no longer recognize spaces, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy emphasized that EMU has moved its activities outside the campus, thanks to the Continuing Education Center, which has started to become the face of the university outside. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy also stated that with the education services provided by EMU-CEC to the society, they hope to give individuals a goal to increase their potential in business and life.
A Learning, Developing and Strong Society
Emphasizing that as the EMU-CEC Executive Board, they are pursuing their educational vision through “a learning, developing and strong society” vision, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy added that individuals continue to learn lifelong, develop and become stronger, and that this creates added value to the general society. Stating that EMU-CEC also provides vocational technical training that society needs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy noted that they act together with many business areas for the development of a qualified, specialized, developing and learning workforce. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy also emphasized that in line with the development of technology and digital world, they cooperate with different chambers such as Industry, Commerce, Trade and Crafts, as well as public institutions and organizations with a strong vision of public understanding in order to develop sectors that have a large share in production wheels and employment.
EMU-CEC Boasts International Memberships
With the support of EMU’s high quality education, international faculty members ahd international acceditations, EMU-CEC is the only institution in Cyprus which has membership in the European University Continuing Education Network (EUCEN), and in Turkish Universities Continuing Education Centers Council (TÜSEM). EMU-CEC Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy also stated that the center has the authority to apply internationally recognised exams (e.g. TOEFL-IBT, TOLES).
