Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Basic and Advanced Photography Instructor Mert Yusuf Özlük and his students organized a Photography Exhibition for the benefit of the SOS Children’s Village. The opening speech of the exhibition that took place at the EMU Communication Faculty was given by EMU Communication Faculty Dean (a.) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agah Gümüş. The exhibition opening took place at the Communication Faculty Exhibition Area on the 23rd of May 2017 at 11:30. In his speech Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gümüş thanked instructor Mert Yusuf Özlük and his students for organizing this meaningful activity in aid of the SOS Children’s Village and in memory of photography artist Prof. Dr. Sabit Kalfagil.
75 photographs were selected out of 2000 photographs taken by 90 students for their Basic and Advanced Photography courses. Özlük thanked his students for their selfless work and endeavor stating “We are selling the photographs in our exhibition for the benefit of the SOS Children’s Village. This exhibition is also very meaningful for me, I remember with respect and love photography artist Prof. Dr. Sabit Kalfagil who greatly influenced me. We have organized this exhibition in his memory.”
“The value of photography is hidden in the meaning that renders it ever-lasting”
Highlighting the fact that the proceeds of the exhibition were donated to the Kemal Saraçoğlu Children with Leukemia Foundation last year, Özlük underlined that this year’s proceeds will be donated to the SOS Children’s Village. Özlük went on to state: “The value of a photograph is hidden in the meaning that renders it ever-lasting. When art or anything we do in life meets with social responsibility projects, the layer that gives it meaning is formed. This is the spirit of social responsibility. I want university students to gain this conscience during their period of education and I am working for them to do so.
The photography exhibition will be open to art lovers until 17:00 on the 25th of May 2017. The second leg of the exhibition will open in Kyrenia on the 29th of May 2017 at 10:00. The exhibition taking place at the Girne Youth and Education Centre (GİGEM) will be open until 16:00 on the 2nd of June 2017. The photographs will be on sale and the proceeds will be given to the SOS Children’s Village.
